Serengeti Migration Safari: A Journey Through Endless Plains

The Great Migration is a year-round cycle, but its location changes with the seasons. We strategically place our camps and lodges to follow the herds. The classic river crossings in the north happen from July to October, while the calving season in the south is from January to March.

The hot air balloon safari is an optional activity and is not included in the standard trip cost. It includes the pre-sunrise flight over the Serengeti, a celebratory champagne breakfast upon landing, and a transfer back to your camp. It is a very popular activity, so we recommend booking it in advance with your safari.

• Low Altitude: The balloon will often fly very low, at treetop height, to give you a close-up, intimate view of the wildlife below and the early morning activities in the bush.

• High Altitude: At other times, the pilot will ascend to a higher altitude, often several hundred meters (over a thousand feet), to give you breathtaking, panoramic views of the vast Serengeti plains and the distant horizon.

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. The charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. 

While the Serengeti is home to all of the “Big Five,” it is a vast wilderness, and we can’t guarantee a sighting of every single animal. However, our experienced guides have an incredible knowledge of animal behavior and local tracking, giving you the very best possible chance of seeing them all.

For the Serengeti safari, internet access is generally available but it’s important to have realistic expectations:

• Availability: Most safari lodges and tented camps offer Wi-Fi access, but it is often limited to a central common area, such as the reception or main dining area, rather than being available in your individual tent or room.

   

• Speed: Due to the remote wilderness location, the internet speed can be slow and intermittent. It is usually sufficient for checking emails and sending messages, but not for high-bandwidth activities like video calls or streaming.

   

• Local SIM Card: You can purchase a local SIM card (e.g., Vodacom) upon arrival in Tanzania, but coverage within the vast Serengeti National Park is still very limited and unreliable.
